The situation that unfolded last night (15 July 2016) in Turkey and which lasted for few hours was a coup attempt to overthrow the democratically-elected government. This attempt was foiled by the Turkish people in unity and solidarity. Our President and Government are in charge. The High Command of Turkish Armed Forces was not involved in this coup attempt, which was initiated by a renegade clique within the Armed Forces operating outside the hierarchy of the chain of command and received a well-deserved response from the nation.
